Visit The Art Studio!

The Art Studio at the Children’s Museum of Richmond encourages children to discover their own unique artistic expression through the process of creating. Children and adults can utilize various materials, media, and objects to explore art and expression.

On-going features in the studio include tempera painting using brushes and textural items, weaving on a variety of looms, constructing using found objects, and drawing of all types. Five project ideas change on a weekly basis in addition to many continual projects available to inspire guests. Some of the projects/examples include various types of puppets, collages, holiday cards, hats, self-portraits, masks, make your own creatures, rain sticks, magnets, books and bookmarks, mobiles, and calendars. Start the new year by expressing your vision for global unity!

The Global Art Project For Peace is a worldwide project designed to promote tolerance and non-violence through art. CMoR’s Global Art Project is a large collaborative weaving that you can contribute to. How?

Just bring in something that has personal meaning to you to weave into our large loom. It can be anything from a strip of fabric cut from a soccer jersey, to a newspaper article highlighting a child’s accomplishments, to shoelaces from shoes that have walked a fascinating path. Then write a statement or story that reflects the personal meaning of the piece(s) you have contributed. In March, the project will head off for distant lands.
