Q: Where is the Children’s Museum of Richmond located?
A: The Children’s Museum of Richmond is located at 2626 West Broad Street, one block east of the Boulevard and right next door to the Science Museum of Virginia. Just Look For The Big Red Puzzle Piece!
Q: Where can I park when visiting?
A: The Children’s Museum of Richmond offers FREE on-site parking directly in front of and behind the building.
Q: What age groups does the Children’s Museum of Richmond serve?
A: The Children’s Museum’s exhibits, activities, and programs are especially designed to serve the cognitive, developmental, and creative needs of children ages birth to 8. The museum welcomes children with developmental delays or special needs up through age 10. Due to the nature of the exhibits, the museum is not recommended for older children.
Q: What are the operating hours?
A: The museum’s operating hours from Labor Day – Memorial Day are Tuesday – Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays except on major school holidays. Operating hours from Memorial Day – Labor Day are Sunday – Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Q: What holidays are observed?
A: The museum is closed on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. The museum is open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day.
Q: What is the cost of admission?
A: General admission is $8.00 for visitors between the ages of one and 60. Children under age one are FREE and seniors receive a $1.00 discount. After 4:00 p.m. admission is only $4.00 per person!
Q: What payment options are accepted?
A: The Museum accepts all major credit cards, cash, or checks.
Q: How long does it take to experience the Children’s Museum?
A: Though the visitor experience varies with each family, an average visit can last approximately three hours.
Q: How can I find my way around?
A: Museum maps are located at the museum’s front desk. Also, staff members and volunteers will be happy to help you find your favorite exhibit and answer any questions.
Q: Is there a place to eat at the facility?
A: Guests are welcome to bring lunches and snacks, and tables are provided in the lobby. For the safety of our little guests, food is not allowed in the exhibit areas. Our museum shop does offer a variety of snacks and drinks. There are numerous kid-friendly restaurants located in the immediate vicinity of the museum as well, and a list can be obtained at the front desk. Q: Can I leave and re-enter without paying again?
A: Admission is good for the entire day, so visitors may leave and return as long as they keep their admission stickers or receipts.
Q: Do you offer personal storage?
A. Visitors are welcome to use lockers to store personal belongings. Coat racks are also available.
Q: Is the Museum wheelchair accessible?
A: Exhibit spaces are specifically designed to be wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs and walkers may also be rented at the front desk.
Q: May I bring my own stroller?
A: Guests are permitted to bring strollers and they may be used in all areas of the museum. Strollers may also be rented at the front desk.
Q: What are the General Museum Manners?
A: Adults must accompany children at all times. Children may not enter the museum without an adult and adults may not enter the museum without a child. In addition, children are encouraged to:
- Use their indoor walking feet. Shoes must also be worn at all times except when playing in the sandbox.
- Use their indoor voices
- Share toys and take turns
- A ratio of 1 adult for every 5 children is required for admission into the museum
- HAVE FUN!
Q: What kind of merchandise does gift shop offer?
A: Our museum shop carries over 2000 educational toys, games, art and craft supplies, musical instruments, intriguing books, hands-on projects, and more! Admission is not required in order to visit our museum shop.

Q: Are there any hotels located near the Museum?
A: The Children’s Museum recommends the Omni Hotel, located just a few blocks east. Other hotels such as the Comfort Inn and the Holiday Inn are also conveniently located within a short distance of the museum.

A: Museum membership is a great deal and can pay for itself in three or four visits. Memberships are available at a variety of levels and offer numerous benefits including unlimited admission for one year. Q: Can the cost of general admission be applied toward the purchase of a membership?
A: Yes, you may apply the purchase of admission tickets towards a same-day purchase of any of our membership packages.

A: All museum members receive unlimited free admission, discounts on shop purchases, and invitations to Member Mondays. Patron members also receive invitations to exclusive member events, advance notice and special pricing on ticketed events, discounts on selected programs, camps and birthday parties, and MORE.

Q: Does the Museum accept monetary donations?
A: As a registered non-profit organization, monetary donations enable the Children’s Museum to accomplish its mission and continue to offer quality events, exhibits, and programming.
Q. Does the Museum accept in-kind donations?
A: The Museum gratefully accepts in-kind donations of items including art supplies, office supplies, furniture&appliances, and landscaping equipment. Q. Is the Children’s Museum of Richmond affiliated with the Science Museum of Virginia?
A. The two museums are in no way affiliated with one another. Memberships with the SMV cannot be used at CMoR and vice-versa.
