Frequently Asked Questions

1.) What does the party include?

•  Exclusive use of a private party room for 90 minutes which includes time allotted for activities, gift opening and the serving of any refreshments/food that you bring for up to 10 children (Each child over the 10 limit is $15 extra and all adults with the party are free. Maximum of 20 children)
• Full day admission for all guests, so children can play before and/or after the party
• Age-appropriate games and activities that are led by a CMoR Party Buddy assigned to the group
• Party supplies - including plates, napkins, cups and utensils in white for everyone in your party. Also provided are tablecloths.
• Goody bag and balloon for each child present
• Set-up and clean-up by CMoR staff (included in 90 minutes)

2.) Can more than 1 child celebrate a birthday?

Yes, more than 1 child can share a birthday celebration at no additional charge. The additional child will be included in the 10 limit. Each child over the 10 count limit will be $15 extra per child.

3.) Does CMoR provide the food?

We do not have a food establishment at our location. Therefore you are responsible for your own food, beverage, birthday cake and ice cream needs.

4.) What are in the goody bags?

The goody bags include a variety of small items. There is nothing edible. You are more than welcome to add to our goody bags or provide your own.

5.) How much does the party cost?

$250 for non-members and $220 for members. Family Advantage and Patron members receive additional discounts.

6.) How many children are included in the price?

The price includes 10 children and that does include the birthday child as well as siblings over the age of one. Each additional child is $15 extra and there is a 20 child maximum per party. Memberships do not apply.

7.) Is there a cost for adults/parents to attend the party?

There is no charge for adults. All adults with the party are free.

8.) What are the available times?

Tuesday – Friday: 3-4:30pm
Saturdays: 10-11:30am, 12:30-2pm and 3-4:30pm
Sundays: 12:30-2pm and 3-4:30pm

The party times are set schedules and cannot be altered.

9.) What if I want to extend my party time?

Party times cannot be extended. You only have the room reserved for the 90 minute time slot you booked. However, you have unlimited time to explore the museum.

10.) How do I reserve a birthday?

Call 804-474-7022.  A $100 deposit is needed in order to secure your reservation. Payments can be made over the phone using a credit card, in person or by mailing a check once the time and date has been confirmed. Remaining balance is due the day of party.

11.) What is the refund/cancellation policy?

Deposits are refundable up to 2 weeks prior to party date. If you book your party less than 2 weeks from the date, your deposit will not be refunded if you decide to cancel.

12.) How do I change the date and/or time of my party?

Please call 804-474-7022 to make any changes to your reservation.

13.) What items can I bring to the party?

You are more than welcome to provide anything that you think will enhance your child’s birthday party experience here at the Children’s Museum of Richmond. Outside entertainment and decorations are allowed.  Please make the party coordinator aware of any decorations or outside entertainment that will be used during the time of booking.

14.) Do I have to use the items that CMoR provides?

You are not obligated to use any of the items that we provide.

15.) What items are prohibited?

Alcohol

16.) When do I need to let you know the final head count?

A final head count is not needed. The party coordinator will touch base with you during the week of your party and if you can provide the maximum amount of children that are expected, that would be greatly appreciated.

17.) What do I do when I arrive to the museum for my party?

On the day of your party, please check in at the front desk.  

18.) What if my guests want to arrive before the party to play in the museum?

You and your guests are welcome to explore the museum any time during the day of your party.  Just have your guests check in at the front desk (no invitation or guest list needed) by saying they are with the last name of the host family.

19.) Is there somewhere I can store my belongings before and/or after the party?

Refrigerated and frozen foods are welcome. Just make sure your last name, date and time of the party are visible. Other belongings can be stored before and/or after the party if storage bins are available but only for a short period of time.

20.) What is the itinerary during the 90 minute time period?

If you have specifics of what you would like to or not to do, (food, activities, outside entertainment or gift opening) please discuss arrangements with the party coordinator so information can be relayed to your party facilitator.

21.) Is it mandatory to tip our facilitator?

Tipping is at your discretion however, it cannot be added to your bill.

22.) Do you provide themes?

We provide a standard celebration theme that appeals to both boys and girls from birth to 8 years old. You are more than welcome to supply your own theme.
