Adventures In Ancient China

Recommended for 2nd - 3rd Grade

Go back in time with us to Ancient China where we can start from the ground up, learning about geography, history, and culture.  Natural geographical defenses, what use the military had for a kite, and the many inventions that can be attributed to this ancient culture. What do fireworks have to do with evil spirits? Why are dragons such a common symbol in China? Find out in the Adventures in Ancient China program! This is a wonderful program for introduction as well as enrichment of classroom work. Students will leave the program with a paper dragon puppet.


History & Social Science

(3.1)  The student will demonstrate skills for historical thinking, geographical analysis, economic decision making, and responsible citizenship by:

  • Identifying artifacts and primary and secondary sources to understand events in world cultures;
  • Using geographic information to support an understanding of world cultures;
  • Interpreting charts, graphs, and pictures to determine characteristics of people, places, or events in world cultures

(3.2)  The student will explain how the contributions of ancient China have influenced the present world in terms of architecture, inventions, the calendar, and written language.
(3.5)  The student will develop map skills and an understanding of change over time by locating major ancient world cultures on world maps

  • at the beginning of their culture;
  • during their period of greatest influence; and
  • today.

(3.6)  The student will develop map skills by using gloves and maps to locate and describe major rivers, mountain ranges, and other geographic features of
