CMoR Field Trip Programs 2009-2010
Encourage learning and spark young imaginations by engaging your class with these creative and hands-on programs.
All programs are aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning, NAEYC Standards and Foundation Blocks for Early Learning. A Field Trip Program includes unlimited time to explore and play in the Museum!
If traveling is tricky, CMoR will come to you with a program and special interactive!
Programs are available September 2009 – June 2010 Tuesday through Friday from 9:30-5:00. Select group Mondays available.
Prices
All programs are $8.00 per student and are about an hour long. Field Trip Programs include unlimited time to explore and play in the Museum
Book your program for September-October 2009 and receive $2.00 off per student!
Custom packages available at discounted rates. Choose a series of any four or more of our programs and save!

2009-2010 Field Trip Programs
Pre-Kindergarten – Kindergarten Programs:
Blooming Butterflies

Investigate pattern, shape and color while learning the lifecycle of a butterfly! Students’ creativity will bloom as they produce a beautiful nature-inspired work of art.
Creative Composers

Create, listen and move! Students will be encouraged to let all of their creative juices flow and use music as a guide. A variety of art mediums will be teamed with creative movement, music and literature to inspire creative exploration.
Dinosaur Discovery

English- K.1, K.2, K.3, K.5
Uncover clues from the past and learn how dinosaurs lived and what they looked like. Students can work like a paleontologist, take part in a dig, and classify their findings. Let learning and fun erupt with our volcano!

Children will enjoy an Asante tale from West Africa, The Leopard’s Drum. Students will participate in a drum circle exploring visual and auditory patterns. A special mask will be created for children to take
home.
Puppet Palooza

Creativity and learning ‘come alive’! Children will experience a story through dramatic play with puppets. Various types of puppets will be introduced. Children will have an opportunity to create their very own puppet to take home.
Water Wonders! – NEW PROGRAM!

Wild about water? This ocean adventure is sure to be a SPLASH! Investigate this diverse habitat and create an exciting water inspired work of art!

I can see, I can hear, I can taste, I can touch and boy does that smell! Students learn about the five marvelous senses and which body parts are involved. Students will explore their senses through
experiments and even create a “sense-ational” work of art to bring home.

Did you know Hopscotch is played all over the world? Come to the museum to ‘hop’ around the world starting from our own city block. Children will celebrate the diverse world we live in through play, literature, art, movement, reading and writing.

What does it take to grow a garden? What tools do birds use to get their food? What are the ingredients needed to make things grow? We will make our own special blend of soil to take home and start our own little garden!

Magnets are everywhere! Where do they come from? Investigate what makes magnets repel and attract. Work through an array of magnet experiments and activities that will really help the lesson ‘stick’

Give me a wedge, Give me a pulley, and Give me an inclined plane! Examine how simple machines help us in the kitchen and in our daily lives as build up a tasty treat!

Prepare for a journey to the Far East! Discover a culture halfway around the world by exploring the contributions of the Ancient Chinese people- from clothing, to architecture, food, games and literature. Write a story in Chinese characters and attempt to build your own Great Wall!
American Indian Journey
