Book Bank Champion Award Luncheon
The Children's Museum of Richmond's Book Bank Champion Awards Luncheon is an opportunity to honor an individual who has positively impacted early childhood literacy in Virginia, as well as to recognize two of the region's most outstanding preschool and kindergarten teachers.
This year's Book Bank Champion Award Recipient is Todd "Parney" Parnell, Richmond Flying Squirrels Vice President and COO. Since January 2012 when the Museum first gained oversight of the Book Bank, Parney has been a true advocate for the importance of early childhood literacy. Along with Flying Squirrels mascot Nutzy, he read to children from the community at the grand opening of the museum's Book Nook exhibit which allows children visiting the museum on field trips to take home a book of their own. The Richmond Flying Squirrels have teamed up with Richmond area schools to promote literacy among elementary school students. In addition, the Richmond Flying Squirrels donated over 1,000 books to support the book bank after hosting a book drive at a season game.
