Children's Book Bank

The Children's Book Bank

The Children’s Museum of Richmond has been named the operating organization of the regional Children’s Book Bank.

The Children’s Book Bank exists to provide free books to children in Central Virginia who can not afford or do not have access to books. By providing opportunities for children to read and be read to, the Children’s Book Bank is an important tool in increasing school readiness for prekindergarten-aged children and enhancing literacy in school-aged children.

The Children’s Museum of Richmond supports early literacy through its recognition of National Reading Month every March, daily storytimes, access to books in exhibits, educator-led reading in field trip programs and numerous other events and programs.

Access to books is key to reading skills. Studies confirm that the number of books in the home directly predicts reading achievement. Children who grew up with books in their homes reached a higher level of education than those who did not.
