[Play of the Week] Cotton Ball Snowman Craft

Blog Image:

We put PLAY in capital letters because it is so important to human development.

It is the vehicle children use to learn, cope, self correct and explore the world. CMoR is so dedicated to promoting play we incorporate it into everything we do.

Each week we will post on the website a new ‘PLAY of the Week’ activity for you to do with your family. It will be an unplugged activity that can be done at the dining room table, in the tub, at the park or just about any place.

Winter crafts with cotton balls

As winter settles in and your child could use an indoor activity, let them use their imagination with cotton balls and other materials you may have lying around the house. Try this cute, cotton ball snowman craft!

What you'll need to make a cotton ball snowman:

  • Cotton Balls
  • Glue
  • Blue construction paper
  • Scissors
  • 2 pipe cleaners
  • Black, orange and green felt
  • 2 googly eyes
  • 3 buttons
  • How to make:

  • First, take a piece of construction paper and using glue (Elmer's is best), "draw" the three circles with the glue to create the snowman's body and head. Fill the circles in with glue.
  • Take the cotton balls and place them in the glue to form your snowman.
  • **Optional: Your child may want to leave the snowman plain..and that's OK! If they wish to add other things to their snowman, try using these other materials:
  • Cut and glue two pipe cleaners for arms
  • Cut and glue some black felt in the shape of a hat and a small strip for the mouth
  • Cut and glue some orange felt into a carrot nose
  • Cut and glue some green felt for a scarf and mittens
  • Glue two googly eyes and three buttons as a finishing touch!
