CMOR’s Cleaning Practices in prep for Cold&Flu Season!

It’s that wonderful time of year again! Pumpkins, presents and all the Yule tide joy you can get. It’s also that time of year in which sniffles and coughing can be heard echoing throughout the city, otherwise known as Cold and Flu Season! People of all ages are at risk for catching the naughty little cold viruses. Here at the Children’s Museum of Richmond we have taken a strong approach toward fighting off these germs with our cleaning and sanitation practices.

We want to make sure that all of our guests know that the Children’s Museum of Richmond is a step ahead of most when it comes to helping to reduce the impact of cold&flu season’s effect on kids and parents alike, with the daily usage of new advanced go green virus and germ eliminating cleaning products, strategies, and staff training. Hand-held manipulatives, surfaces and exhibits are sanitized daily with multiple rotations. Antibacterial hand sanitizers can be found mounted on the walls everywhere for convenient and safe usage. Before and after hours deeper cleaning is done as well !

While we may not be able to stop cold&flu season entirely, we are making our mark in trying to provide a safe, sanitary and fun environment for all of our visitors. Staff members are also encouraged to live healthy clean life styles during the cold & flu season epidemic.

Parents can also help keep those germs at bay by working with your child to develop good habits early on. While hand sanitizers are quick and effective, nothing beats good old soap and water. Teach children to sign songs like “Happy Birthday” or their “ABC’s” while washing their hands to make sure they do it for the appropriate amount of time. You will also notice several buckets around the museum for parents to put any toys that have been in a child’s mouth, this is another quick and easy step to help prevent illness from spreading.

What are some other ways that you work with you children to prevent illness during this time of year?
