[Play of the Week] Family Flag
We see PLAY all in capital letters because it is so important to human development.
It is the vehicle children use to learn, cope, self correct and explore the world. CMoR is so dedicated to promoting play we incorporate it into everything we do.
Each week we will post on the website a new ‘PLAY of the Week’ activity for you to do with your family. It will be an unplugged activity that can be done under the dining room table, in the tub, at the park or just about any place.
Family Flag:
Celebrate the 4th of July by making your own flag! The American Flag has 50 stars to represent our 50 states, and 13 stripes representing the original 13 colonies. Have your children work on making their own flag with symbols to represent themselves or your family!
What you will need
- Paper or cloth
- Crayons, markers, paint, or ink
- Print materials (sequence, glitter, scrap pictures, and so on.)
- Glue
What to do:
- Discuss how flags are symbols.
- Find a flag and examine the details.
- Talk about flags, such as the American flag, and what they mean.
- Make your own flag for your family or group.
- Ask your children “What can you put on your flag that tells us about you and your family/group?”
- Explore what things remind you of your family/group and include them in your flag.
