[Play of the Week] "All About Me" Collage

Blog Image:

We put PLAY in capital letters because it is so important to human development.

It is the vehicle children use to learn, cope, self correct and explore the world. CMoR is so dedicated to promoting play we incorporate it into everything we do.

Each week we will post on the website a new ‘PLAY of the Week’ activity for you to do with your family. It will be an unplugged activity that can be done at the dining room table, in the tub, at the park or just about any place.

Crafting a Collage

As your child begins to develop into their own little person, it is important to let them express themselves. Making a collage together is a great way to let your child pick out their favorite things and put it all together into one piece of artwork.

What you'll need:

  • A variety of magazines
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick OR Mod Podge and paint brush
  • A white or colored piece of paper
  • How to make:

  • Begin by flipping through magazines with your child. Let them find their favorite colors, images, photographs, words, etc.
  • Tear out all of the pages that your child finds interesting.
  • After you have collected a bunch of pages, begin cutting out the selected images on the page
  • Take a piece of paper and let your child glue the image anywhere they would like. Using Mod Podge and a paint brush also works well to give the finished product a glossy look. Remember, a collage is meant to look cluttered! It is OK to glue images close together and have them overlap. Your child will use their imagination to place things where they would like.
  • After you have filled the page, display his or her collage in their room or around the house to admire!
